Site-Based Council
Our site-based council works together for the good of all Sonoita/Elgin students. We’re proud of our accomplishments and invite you to share in our enthusiasm by participating in our programs and activities when you can. Thank you for your support!
Character Counts! Recognition Program
With great pleasure, Elgin School’s Site-Based Council would like to invite you to participate in our Character Counts! Student- and Staff-of-the-Month Recognition Program. Why? Because it is important to nominate and recognize those who go above and beyond their regular duties as a staff member or a student.
What It Is
Character Counts! is embedded in our school culture and has been part of our curriculum since 2004. We follow the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. We incorporate these into our morning flag ceremonies, our programs, and our classrooms throughout the school year.
Monthly Recognition
The site-based council committee votes on one student from grades K–2, 3–5, and 6–8 and one staff member every month. We recognize the chosen students and staff every month at our morning flag ceremony and at the school board meetings. Their picture appears in the local paper and on Elgin School’s Facebook page.
Letters of Recommendation
We invite students, staff, parents, and our community members to write a letter of recommendation for monthly Character Counts! recognition. Please drop off or mail your letters to the front office at Elgin School, Box 36, Elgin, AZ 85611. Or you may leave it in our campus drop-off mailbox outside of the school library.
